I purchased this machine to replace a steam-driven one. Of note, I took someones advice and removed the metal piece that covers the steaming wand. This was my first use of a pump machine, so the noise and vibration worried me a little at first. Though it's taken some getting used to, I'm now making great espresso and loving the machine. With it on, I got so many bubbles that my cup overflowed before the milk was even lukewarm. With the cover off, I can slowly heat the milk and still get a nice froth; it works much better for me like this.
I have used the machine everyday since receiving it in the mail 30 days ago and I have not had any problems with this item.
This is my very first expresso maker. I want to add two things: 1) I highly recommend a milk frothing thermometer (cost about $10), so the froth is always heated to around 160 degrees to ensure a perfect cup of latte and cappuccino. I chose this one mainly because of the positive reviews here.I am very happy about this machine after using it every week for the past four months. This model is extremely easy to use and to clean - it takes me about 10 minutes from start to finish: from grinding beans to finising cleaning everything. Many reviewers here provide excellent comparison of this model to others, its pros and cons. 2) Clean the steam nozzle and wand immediately after you finish steaming function. If you wait, the milk will harden on the wand and become harder to wipe off.Overall I am very satisfied with this machine, and it saved me all my weekend trips and money to the Starbucks.
Has been quite reliable, as we've used the heck out of it for 6 months. In fact, the girls liked it so much that we bought my sister one. A great machine. Hers worked perfectly out of the box. Works well. Makes tasty espresso. The pump machine is the way to go.the price is reasonable for what you get. A big thumbs up for this machine.
The Farberware plastic portafiler holder broke after the one year warranty expired. I have had no problem with a long steam wand as some of the previous reviews have noted.
It makes much better expresso than my old machine (a Farberware). I just received my Cuisinart EM 100 this week.
It is a great machine. Some things that I have discovered about the Cuisinart are 1)the two scoop filter basket will not take two level scoops as it overflows (not a problem just something to be aware of) 2) the pump stops when the water is not at the right temperature, especially for steam then it starts again when the temp is right (this scared me at first as I thought that the pump had failed)3) it is smart to clean the steam wand and the brew head right after making a cup so things do not get clogged 4)the frothing pitcher is great and just the right size. Both machines have good pumps, removable trays, cup warmers etc.
The differences are 1) the Cuisinart does not drip when you stop the pump 2) the crema and taste are far superior (bolder, more flavorful) 3)the milk really froths and expands not just get bubbley. I love the three year warranty.
The Cuisinart has a metal portafilter holder
